Texas Man Found Guilty of Vehicular Homicide in Aurora Car Crash

A Texas man, Taylor Marcus Douglas, 31, of Huntsville, has been convicted of vehicular homicide and reckless driving following a high-speed car crash in Aurora that resulted in the death of a 71-year-old woman, as reported by the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

The incident occurred on April 15, 2024, around 3:30 p.m. when Janis Camfield and her husband were struck by Douglas’ black Nissan Altima while turning onto South Chambers Road near East Center Avenue. Witnesses stated that Douglas was speeding and weaving through traffic prior to the collision. Crash data revealed that he was traveling at 98 mph seconds before impact and approximately 73 mph at the time of the crash.

Tragically, Janis Camfield succumbed to her injuries later that day, while her husband sustained severe injuries. Douglas faces a maximum sentence of six years in prison and is set to be sentenced on Jan. 16. District Attorney Amy Padden emphasized the importance of holding offenders accountable for such preventable tragedies and is advocating for stricter penalties for vehicular homicide cases.

Represented by the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender, Douglas did not comment on the case. For more crime news updates, subscribe here.
