A tragic incident unfolded at a Sonic restaurant in San Antonio, Texas, when a caring manager, Daniel Shrewsbury, was fatally shot during an argument over counterfeit money. The suspect, Adiah Roberson, 17, had been on the run as a fugitive on the Texas 10 Most Wanted list since July 16 before her recent arrest in a Dallas apartment complex parking lot.
The altercation began when Roberson and two others attempted to pay for food with fake currency, leading to a confrontation with Shrewsbury. Another suspect, Joshua Joseph, who was arrested in August, threatened Shrewsbury with a gun before Roberson opened fire on him, ultimately resulting in his tragic death.
Witnesses at the scene recounted hearing gunshots and seeing the chaos unfold at the Sonic drive-through. Shrewsbury, described as a devoted brother and son who enjoyed spending time with his family, was mourned by his loved ones following the senseless act of violence.
Roberson, who was also wanted for forgery of a government document, now faces charges of murder and forgery. After being booked into the Dallas County jail, she will be transferred to San Antonio to stand trial. In Texas, individuals under the age of 18 can be tried as adults for serious offenses like capital murder, potentially facing a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 40 years.
The apprehension of Roberson was made possible by a tip that led law enforcement to her location in Dallas. The arrest brings a sliver of justice to Shrewsbury’s family and friends, who continue to mourn his untimely passing. The community is left grappling with the senseless loss of a beloved member and the consequences of a tragic event that will forever impact all those involved.
