A preschool teacher from Texas was taken into custody after allegedly brandishing a firearm at another motorist during a heated road-rage incident on Wednesday.
Latashia Deshawn Walker-County, 51, is accused of pulling a gun on another driver amid a confrontation in Bexar County, Texas.
The incident was reported to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office by the victim, prompting investigators to quickly locate Walker-County, according to News 4 San Antonio.
Walker-County reportedly admitted to wielding her firearm during the argument with the other female driver.
Walker-County faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was released after posting a $50,000 bond.
Walker-County works as a pre-kindergarten teacher at Essence Preparatory Public School in San Antonio, Texas, according to the school’s website.
The tuition-free charter school has been ordered to close at the end of the academic year, just four years after opening, as reported by the San Antonio Report.
The Texas Education Agency declined to renew the school’s charter, citing three years of consistently low academic performance.
Serving students from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade, the school was established to address the educational, social, and emotional needs of black and brown children, while demonstrating that home zip codes do not determine educational success, as outlined on its website.
Following her swift release and the prospect of losing her job, Walker-County shared cryptic social media posts expressing gratitude for “what didn’t happen” and emphasized the importance of “cleaning up your spirit” over concerns about one’s image.
