Sebastian Stan, known for his role as Donald Trump in the new film “The Apprentice,” criticized the GOP nominee for his hypocrisy after Trump condemned the movie on his Truth Social platform.
Stan stated, “He’s been trying to censor this movie, and at the same time, he claims that he acknowledges free speech … I can’t think of anything more hypocritical,” as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Former President Trump’s attorneys reportedly sent a cease-and-desist letter to the creators of the film, which explores Trump’s past as a real estate developer and his relationship with lawyer Roy Cohn.
The movie depicts scenes of Trump engaging in controversial activities, such as raping his then-wife Ivana Trump, redlining his buildings, and neglecting his brother Fred Trump Jr. as he battled alcoholism.
Trump’s campaign spokesperson threatened legal action against the film, labeling it as “election interference” and “pure fiction.” Trump himself criticized the movie for its content.
Writer Gabriel Sherman, responding to Trump’s comments, noted that attacking is a tactic Trump learned from Roy Cohn, as depicted in the film.
Stan, when asked about the film’s release close to Election Day, encouraged viewers to delve deeper into Trump’s character and question their trust in him as a leader.
He emphasized, “Forget the politics and just go in there and use your instinct and ask yourself: Do you trust this man? That’s what the movie is about.”
