Gene Hackman’s Art Collection up for Auction in New York
Art enthusiasts with a taste for the finer things in life will have a chance to bid on pieces from Gene Hackman’s personal collection at a live auction in New York on Nov. 19. The auction will feature works by renowned artists such as Milton Avery and Richard Diebenkorn, with some pieces expected to fetch six-figure sums.
The star of the live auction is “Figure on the Jetty” by American modernist Milton Avery, which is estimated to sell for between $500,000 and $700,000. The painting, which depicts a solitary figure on a jetty gazing out to sea, is said to be inspired by Avery’s summers in Provincetown, Massachusetts during the late 1950s and early 1960s. It showcases Avery’s mature style and is a standout piece in his body of work.
After being displayed in galleries and institutions for many years, Hackman acquired the painting in 1997 and cherished it until his passing. The auction presents a rare opportunity for art collectors to own a piece with such a rich history and artistic significance.
Other notable pieces up for auction include two prints by Richard Diebenkorn and works by other well-known American artists. The event promises to be a unique opportunity for art lovers to acquire pieces from a collection curated by a Hollywood legend.
