“The Bondsman” Cancelled After One Season on Amazon
Amazon has decided to cancel the action horror series “The Bondsman” after just one season, as reported by Variety. The show originally premiered its eight-episode first season on Prime Video on April 3, but failed to secure a renewal for a second season.
Starring Kevin Bacon as the titular bondsman, the series follows murdered bounty hunter Hub Halloran who is resurrected by the Devil to capture and send back demons that have escaped from Hell. With the help and hindrance of his estranged family, Hub embarks on a journey of redemption as he confronts his own sins and seeks a second chance at life, love, and country music.
Created by Grainger David, “The Bondsman” received positive reviews from critics upon its release. However, Variety’s Alison Herman noted that the show had to quickly move from setup to payoff in its short first season, leaving little room for a prolonged middle stretch.
Despite making an appearance on the Nielsen streaming charts during its debut week, with 563 million minutes viewed, the show failed to make a lasting impact with viewers. The series also featured Jennifer Nettles, Damon Herriman, Beth Grant, Maxwell Jenkins, and Jolene Purdy in supporting roles.
Executive produced by Erik Oleson, Kevin Bacon, Jason Blum, Chris McCumber, Jeremy Gold, and Chris Dickie, “The Bondsman” had a strong creative team behind it. However, the decision to cancel the show was ultimately made by Amazon.
While fans of the show may be disappointed by its cancellation, it’s not uncommon for streaming platforms to make tough decisions about the fate of their original series. As the entertainment landscape continues to evolve, audiences can expect more diverse and innovative content to come their way.
