Double Vision, a renowned Malaysian production house, has recently entered the world of short-form content by forming a strategic alliance with microdrama distributor RisingJoy. This partnership signifies CEO Min Lim’s foray into the growing sector of short-form content creation.
At the core of this partnership, Double Vision will acquire a minority stake in RisingJoy, a venture established by Cassandra Yang and Ricky Ow. As part of the collaboration, Double Vision, a member of the Vision New Media group, will become RisingJoy’s official production partner for microdrama formats.
The announcement of this alliance took place at the prestigious Asia TV Forum and Market in Singapore. RisingJoy, founded by Yang and Ow, boasts a vast library of over 500 hours of short-form content in Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and English. Their distribution network covers more than two dozen territories across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and South America. Additionally, RisingJoy is set to launch RJoy, a curated streaming platform in partnership with Double Vision.
Since its establishment in 2021, RisingJoy has been collaborating with regional operators to create co-branded microdrama services, leveraging its content selection capabilities and partners’ audience reach. Double Vision brings over four decades of experience in creating drama programming for Malaysian and broader Asian audiences, with successful adaptations of popular formats like “The Bridge” and “Liar.”
Apart from creative collaboration, Double Vision’s production services arm will support RisingJoy’s global expansion by providing services such as music licensing, format documentation, adaptation, and on-the-ground production in key territories. CEO Min Lim expressed admiration for RisingJoy’s work in the microdrama space and emphasized the exciting potential of this partnership.
Yang sees microdrama evolving from a niche Chinese genre to a global phenomenon, with the strategic partnership with Double Vision poised to capitalize on this growth. She highlighted Double Vision’s financial investment and international experience as key factors in propelling RisingJoy to new heights and fulfilling their global ambitions.
This collaboration with RisingJoy follows Double Vision’s recent co-production agreement with ABS-CBN and Astro Shaw to develop three drama series over the next few years. The slate includes a reboot of the acclaimed “A Time for Us,” along with crime thriller “Besa” and YA sci-fi series “Habitat.”
In conclusion, Double Vision’s alliance with RisingJoy marks a significant step into the world of short-form content creation, with both companies poised to make a lasting impact on the global entertainment landscape.
