If states other than Nevada and Arizona were to increase their wastewater reuse to 50 percent, it could boost water availability by 1.3 million acre-feet every year. Nevada, for example, has a robust permitting system and state fund for water reuse projects. However, without federal guidance and support, states are left to navigate the complexities of water recycling on their own.
