The mainstream media’s coverage of Donald Trump’s second presidency in 2025 has been lackluster, to say the least. Despite it being a new year, the media seems stuck in the past, rehashing the same old stories and sensationalizing Trump’s every move.
While some anchors like Nicolle Wallace and Lawrence O’Donnell have tried to provide context and a measured approach to covering Trump’s actions, others like CNN have taken a different route. CNN, in a bid to win back Trump’s favor, has ousted Jim Acosta and replaced him with Republican Wolf Blitzer in a prime time slot. This move has left many viewers disappointed and questioning the network’s motives.
MSNBC, on the other hand, has pinned its hopes on Rachel Maddow’s return to boost ratings. However, the network has fallen to third place among cable networks, with viewership numbers failing to impress during Trump’s second inauguration.
The coverage of the Democratic response to Trump has been minimal, with little criticism of his unconstitutional and illegal actions. It seems that the mainstream media’s playbook is clear – they wanted Joe Biden out of office to bring back Trump in hopes of boosting ratings.
However, many Americans seem to be tuning out and waiting for a fresh face to lead the Democratic party in the future. The media’s failure to hold Trump accountable and act as mere stenographers for his administration is not sitting well with viewers.
As more people tune out and turn off, it sends a clear message to the corporate press that this type of coverage is not what many Americans want. It’s time for the media to step up and provide balanced, informative coverage that holds those in power accountable.
