In a recent episode of “The Masked Singer,” Season 12, Episode 5 titled “Barbie Night,” actress Laverne Cox, known for her role in “Orange Is the New Black,” was revealed to be the celebrity behind the Chess Piece costume. Despite the panelists’ guesses, which included Serena Williams, Issa Rae, Misty Copeland, and Tyra Banks, none of them correctly identified Cox.

In her emotional voiceover as Chess Piece, Cox shared her personal struggles with self-acceptance and how Barbie played a significant role in her journey. She expressed how as a child, she faced teasing and criticism, but found solace in Barbie dolls, which inspired her to believe in herself and embrace her uniqueness. Cox’s performance of Chaka Khan’s “I’m Every Woman” was a powerful celebration of empowerment and resilience.

The episode also featured performances from other masked celebrities, including Bluebell, Goo, and Wasp. Bluebell’s rendition of Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” was accompanied by a touching story of overcoming challenges and believing in oneself.
