Embracing Meghan Markle’s Unique Instagram Style
Before Meghan Markle became a member of the royal family, she was just like the rest of us on social media. Her Instagram feed was filled with vibrant travel photos, yoga poses, peonies, and inspirational quotes in millennial pink. Each post was accompanied by a string of hashtags, showcasing the typical social media aesthetic of the mid-2010s.
However, in 2018, Meghan made the decision to log off from social media. It wasn’t until seven years later, after a dramatic move from the United Kingdom, that she reemerged on Instagram under the username @meghan. While the rest of the world had shifted towards a more candid and darker-toned style of posting, Meghan stuck to her highly saturated and filtered aesthetic.
Some may find Meghan’s Instagram presence cringey, while others find it endearing. Regardless of where you stand, there’s no denying the disarming nature of her posts. It’s hard to harbor strong negative feelings towards someone who shares cheesy quotes about Nutella, awkwardly dances in a hospital room, and expresses love for her children in the most whimsical ways.
While Meghan may not be the top lifestyle influencer, her Instagram could actually have a positive impact. In the United Kingdom, her popularity is at an all-time low, according to YouGov. In the United States, it hovers around 39%. By portraying herself as a slightly un-hip mom on social media, Meghan comes across as more relatable and likable.
After all, how many of us truly have effortlessly cool Instagram feeds?
