Netflix has announced that the highly anticipated second season of “The Sandman” will be coming to a thrilling conclusion this summer. The streamer has decided to split Season 2 into two volumes, with the first volume consisting of six episodes set to premiere on July 3, and the second volume of five episodes releasing on July 24.
The first teaser trailer for the final season of “The Sandman” has also been unveiled, teasing a big reunion for Dream (played by Tom Sturridge) and his family of Endless siblings.
It was previously reported by Variety that Netflix and showrunner Allan Heinberg had planned for the second season to be the final season before it was filmed in the summer of 2023. The decision to end the show was confirmed by Netflix in January of this year, coinciding with sexual misconduct accusations against “The Sandman” graphic novel author and series executive producer Neil Gaiman.
The description for the second and final chapter of “The Sandman” reveals that after a fateful reunion with his family, Dream must face one impossible decision after another as he tries to save himself, his kingdom, and the waking world from the fallout of his past misdeeds. The second season will tell Dream’s story arc in full to its thrilling conclusion, as he confronts friends and foes, gods, monsters, and mortals in his quest for forgiveness.
The cast of “The Sandman” Season 2 includes Tom Sturridge, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Esmé Creed-Miles, and a star-studded lineup of actors such as Gwendoline Christie, Jenna Coleman, Stephen Fry, and many more.
Allan Heinberg serves as showrunner and executive producer of the series, alongside David S. Goyer and Neil Gaiman. The second season was directed by Jamie Childs and is produced by Warner Bros. Television for Netflix, based on the beloved DC Comic series created by Gaiman, Sam Keith, and Mike Dringenberg.
Fans of “The Sandman” can look forward to the epic conclusion of the series this summer, as Dream embarks on a journey full of unexpected twists and turns in his quest for absolution.
