Christopher Briney has officially joined the cast of “Hacks” for its fifth season, which is presently in production.
“Hacks” delves into the complex relationship between Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), a seasoned and iconic comedian, and Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder), the Gen Z writer assigned to assist her. The series made its debut on HBO Max in 2021. After the conclusion of Season 4 earlier this year, Smart secured her fourth consecutive Emmy award for her role, while Einbinder received her inaugural Emmy nod.
In terms of Briney’s character specifics, they are still under wraps, but a behind-the-scenes image released by Warner Bros. Discovery shows him beside Deborah, his arm playfully around her waist. Both actors sport smiles, and Briney is seen with an unbuttoned shirt revealing several tattoos across his chest.
Briney rose to fame portraying Conrad Fisher in “The Summer I Turned Pretty” on Amazon Prime Video. This young adult series, which is based on Jenny Han’s beloved book series, launched in 2022 and recently wrapped its third season in September, with a movie adaptation currently in the works. Additionally, Briney featured as Aaron Samuels in Paramount’s upcoming 2024 “Mean Girls” musical film. He is represented by Industry Entertainment, CESD, Peikoff & Mahan, and Vision PR.
The creative force behind “Hacks” includes Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello, and Jen Statsky, who are also the showrunners. The Season 5 ensemble cast, alongside Smart, Einbinder, and Briney, comprises Downs, Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Mark Indelicato, and Rose Abdoo. The executive producing team features Downs and Aniello from their Paulilu production company, Statsky at First Thought Productions, Michael Schur from Fremulon, David Miner representing 3 Arts Entertainment, along with Morgan Sackett, Joe Mande, Aisha Muharrar, Nate Young, and Ashley Glazier. Universal Television acts as the studio behind the show.
