At first glance, Charleston, W.Va., New York, N.Y., and Janesville, Wis., might not appear to share much in common.
However, a recent report identifies these three metropolitan areas as having some of the highest per-capita health care spending in the country. Interestingly, the report also highlights unexpected findings: three metropolitan areas in California, despite the state’s reputation for high costs, are among the lowest spenders. Conversely, two areas in West Virginia are noted for their high spending.
The Health Care Cost Institute, an independent nonprofit research organization, published the report today alongside a new data tool named Health Cost Landscape. This tool enables users to explore health care spending factors in specific U.S. metropolitan areas.
