“The Ultimatum: Queer Love” has concluded after airing two seasons on Netflix.

The show was a part of Netflix’s expanding “Ultimatum” franchise, which kicked off with “The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On” in April 2022. While the original series continues to thrive, having been renewed for a fourth season earlier this year, Netflix has also introduced French and South African adaptations of “The Ultimatum.”

Both “Marry or Move On” and “Queer Love” depict the journeys of five to six couples each season, with the cast of “Queer Love” comprising entirely of women and non-binary individuals. In this format, one partner in each couple expresses a desire for marriage and presents an ultimatum to their significant other. Following this, the participants spend a week dating individuals from other couples before selecting a partner to enter a three-week “trial marriage.” After this period, they reconnect with their original partners for another three weeks. At the season’s conclusion, each participant must make a pivotal decision regarding marriage with their original partner, returning to their trial spouse, or choosing to leave single.

The first season of “The Ultimatum: Queer Love” debuted in May 2024 and managed to capture a spot in the Netflix Top 10 for two weeks. The second season premiered in June of this year but failed to reach the global Top 10, although it did achieve notable rankings in the charts of five individual countries.

“The Ultimatum: Queer Love” was conceived by Chris Coelen, who serves as an executive producer through his company, Kinetic Content. In addition to “The Ultimatum,” Coelen and his team are recognized for the “Love Is Blind” series and “Perfect Match,” both of which continue to be popular on Netflix, as well as “Married at First Sight,” a series that transitioned from A&E’s FYI network for its first four seasons to Lifetime for Season 18 and will be available on Peacock for the upcoming 19th season.
