This new designation brings essential support for law enforcement in regions facing the most serious challenges from drug trafficking, aligning with the Trump Administration’s objectives in public policy and enhancing efforts by Homeland Security Task Forces to tackle illicit drug use and safeguard American lives.

Washington, D.C. – The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) under the White House has officially appointed two additional counties as part of its High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) Program. This initiative is designed to orchestrate and aid efforts by federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial agencies to dismantle drug trafficking organizations across all 50 states, as well as Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. The HIDTA Program also bolsters the work of the Homeland Security Task Force, ensuring a cohesive and strategic approach to counterdrug operations.

The newly designated areas include:

  • St. Joseph County, Indiana (Indiana HIDTA)
  • Rogers County, Oklahoma (Texoma HIDTA)

“The Trump Administration is fully utilizing all available resources to halt the influx of dangerous illicit drugs into our communities,” stated Acting Director Victor Avila. “The HIDTA Program serves as a crucial force multiplier in our campaign against the criminal networks responsible for the pervasive distribution of hazardous substances like fentanyl. These latest designations will provide these regions with vital resources and assistance needed to combat drug trafficking organizations effectively.”

Since its launch in 1988, the HIDTA Program has played a pivotal role in assisting public safety officials in executing coordinated operations against drug trafficking rings. Under ONDCP’s guidance, it has offered a practicable approach to address the twin crises of addiction and overdose. In 2024 alone, HIDTAs reported seizing approximately $18 billion in illegal drugs and cash, reflecting an impressive return on investment of $68.07 for every $1 allocated to the HIDTA Program.
