Cast for Season 4
Season 4 marks a significant transition in casting for The Witcher series. Notably, Henry Cavill will step away from his role as Geralt, with Liam Hemsworth stepping in to portray the titular character.
This casting change came as a shock to many viewers, particularly since Cavill was a strong advocate for the role from the beginning. While neither Netflix nor Cavill has disclosed the reasons behind this shift, it is rumored he departed due to concerns regarding the series’ creative direction.

Season 4 Plot Overview
The forthcoming season will adapt themes from Sapkowski’s novel Baptism of Fire, the third book in the Witcher saga. As always, it’s uncertain which specific elements from the novel will be included as the show has a history of diverging from the source material.
In Baptism of Fire, a group is assembled to search for Ciri, who has gone missing following the Thanedd Coup. Geralt, alongside Jaskier and the skilled archer Milva, traverses the war-torn continent where they encounter Zoltan, Cahir, and the enigmatic Emiel Regis. It seems this core storyline will remain intact within the adaptation.
Meanwhile, Ciri joins a group known as the Rats—young bandits engaged in plundering. During her adventure with them, she adopts a new identity, Falka, which allows her darker nature to manifest—she also finds a new romantic interest. According to showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the arcs of Ciri and Geralt will intertwine prominently in the series.
Netflix
In season 4, Yennefer will take on the challenge of stepping into the shoes of her late mentor and mother figure, Tissaia, as she assumes a leadership role at Aretuza. As Hissrich notes, this will force Yennefer to grapple with significant decisions about her place in the magical society, as the Brotherhood has been dismantled.
With her mentor gone, how will Yennefer choose to lead? And what does she aspire to be within the magic community? This will push her character into complex territories.
If Yennefer indeed claims leadership, this will mark a notable deviation from her storyline in the books, as she instead becomes embroiled in a conspiracy led by Philippa Eilhart to safeguard the interests of sorceresses in the wake of the Coup.
