Traveling can be an exciting adventure, but it’s essential to consider safety when choosing your destination. As tensions continue to rise around the world, financial comparison site Hellosafe has compiled a list of the most dangerous nations to travel to in 2025.
The index used 35 different criteria to rank countries based on the frequency of natural disasters, societal violence, involvement in armed conflict, health infrastructure, and militarization. The Philippines topped the list as the most unsafe vacation nation with a score of 82.32 out of 100. This high score was attributed to the country’s high levels of violence within society, including incidents like the abduction of American YouTuber Elliot Onil Eastman.
Colombia and Mexico followed closely behind as the second and third most dangerous nations, with scores of 79.21 and 78.42, respectively. Both countries have high levels of crime and kidnapping, leading the US State Department to issue travel warnings for certain areas.
India and Russia rounded out the top five most dangerous nations, with scores of 77.86 and 75.65. Recent tensions in Kashmir and ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine contribute to their high rankings on the list.
On the other end of the spectrum, there are plenty of safe destinations for travelers to consider. Iceland, Singapore, Denmark, Austria, and Switzerland were ranked as the top five safest nations to visit in 2025. These countries offer a peaceful and secure environment for tourists to explore and enjoy.
When planning your next vacation, be sure to consider the safety of your chosen destination. By staying informed and choosing wisely, you can have a memorable and worry-free travel experience.
