Nine Long Islanders were brought to court on Thursday in connection to the shocking kidnapping and abuse of a 14-year-old girl, following a harsh 75-count grand jury indictment accusing them of sex trafficking and rape.
Alton Harrell, 35, entered a plea of not guilty after being identified as the main perpetrator in the appalling abuse of Emmarae Gervasi, who was missing for 25 days and subjected to drugs, repeated rape, and exploitation by Harrell and his associates, according to a report by Newsday.
Assistant Suffolk County District Attorney Dana Castaldo informed the court that Harrell played a central role in the victimization of Gervasi, whom he had known since she was a child.
Harrell, who allegedly had a sexual relationship with the teen dating back to 2024, is facing charges of kidnapping and rape, with a potential maximum sentence of life in prison.
In addition to Harrell, Francis Buckheit, 64, of East Islip; Daniel Burke, 63, of Bohemia; Elizabeth Hunter, 34, of Islip; Jacquelyn Comiskey, 52, of Bellport; Robert Eccleston, 61, of Islip; Bunice Knight, 47, of Copiague; Kevin McDonald, 20, of Medford; and Ralph Knowles, 63, of Brentwood were also charged in connection to the case.
All eight defendants, like Harrell, pleaded not guilty during their court appearance.
Harrell allegedly picked up Gervasi from her home on the night of December 9 and took her to an abandoned house in Bellport, where he reportedly provided her with drugs in exchange for sex.
McDonald is accused of sexually assaulting the girl in his car before taking her to a motel in Bohemia. He is facing charges of rape and endangering the welfare of a child.
Burke allegedly held the teen captive in his mobile home, while Buckheit was identified as the owner of the boat where Gervasi was eventually rescued by her father. Both are facing similar charges as Harrell.
Eccleston allegedly kept and assaulted the girl in a detached garbage container before she was taken aboard the boat. He is also charged with second-degree kidnapping.
While on the boat, several men allegedly assaulted Gervasi, with Hunter and Comiskey accused of child sex trafficking.
Knight is accused of trading drugs with Comiskey for sex with the teen at his home, facing a charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
Knowles was charged with rape and other misdemeanors related to sexual abuse and endangerment of a child.
Three other individuals involved in the case were also arrested, including Daniel Soto, a 36-year-old man from Bay Shore, and DeShaun McClean, 42, who allegedly groped the teen while she was at a mental health facility following her abduction in January.
Another arrest was made, Rebecca Browell, 48, who allegedly sold drugs to an undercover officer and was accused of providing drugs to Gervasi while knowing she was engaging in sexual activities with adult men.
The prosecution alleges that Browell played a role in enabling the exploitation of Gervasi by supplying her with drugs.
