In a recent episode that could only be described as a political drama worthy of a primetime slot, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries issued a stark warning to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents. His threat came in response to their potential arrests of Democratic lawmakers involved in a contentious incident at the Newark ICE facility, where they reportedly stormed the premises and confronted agents.
When pressed by reporters about the implications of DHS pursuing legal action against these lawmakers, Jeffries ominously stated, “They’ll find out. They’ll find out. They’ll find out. It’s a red line. They know better than to go down that road. There are clear lines that they dare not cross.” This declaration not only raises eyebrows but also invites questions about the boundaries of political dissent and accountability.

In a striking development, Tricia McLaughlin, a spokesperson for DHS, revealed that during the chaotic confrontation, a female ICE agent was allegedly bodyslammed by members of Congress. The incident took place at the Delaney Hall detention facility, where Democratic Representatives LaMonica McIver, Bob Menendez, and Bonnie Watson Coleman were advocating for the release of individuals described as dangerous criminal aliens.
Bodycam footage from ICE depicted Rep. LaMonica McIver engaging in verbally aggressive and physically confrontational behavior towards federal agents, adding a layer of complexity to an already fraught situation.
In a particularly colorful outburst, McIver was recorded declaring, “I touch whoever I want, motherf*cker!” while engaging with ICE personnel at the Newark facility.

The scandal escalated further when Mayor Baraka was arrested and charged with federal trespass, signaling that the investigation into the incident is far from over. DHS confirmed that additional arrests could follow, as they possess bodycam footage that allegedly shows some lawmakers assaulting ICE enforcement officers, including the aforementioned incident involving the female agent.
“There will likely be more arrests coming. We have bodycam footage of some of these members of Congress assaulting our ICE enforcement officers, including bodyslamming a female ICE officer. We will be showing that to viewers very shortly,” stated McLaughlin during her CNN appearance.
When asked if this footage could lead to arrests of Congressional members, McLaughlin replied, “That is definitely on the table.”
Additionally, U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, Alina Habba, announced the initiation of a federal investigation into the violent altercation involving Congressional Democrats and ICE agents at Delaney Hall. “My office is undertaking a thorough investigation in coordination with our Federal Agency partners of what transpired on Friday at Delaney Hall. As is true of every investigation this office handles, all available evidence will be thoroughly reviewed prior to making a determination on how to proceed. I do not take these matters lightly,” Habba emphasized.
