A woman has been sentenced to over two years in jail after stealing over $165,000 worth of diamonds, silver, and gold from a jewelry shop she managed. Lucy Roberts, 39, of Swanland, East Yorkshire, pleaded guilty to theft by employee at Grimsby Crown Court.

Roberts, who managed the luxury jewelry shop Daniella Draper in Beverley, aroused suspicion among her colleagues when she started taking jewelry home with her under the guise of working from home and sorting stock for the shop’s workshop. After working at the shop for a year, she handed in her notice and went on a cruise.

Her colleagues grew more suspicious when she began sending selfies wearing luxury jewelry they knew she hadn’t purchased. Police were alerted, and investigations revealed that Roberts had made fraudulent return transactions and falsified stock takes.

A search of her bedroom uncovered thousands of pounds worth of jewelry hidden in boxes beneath her bed and in cupboards. When she returned from her cruise at Heathrow Airport, she was caught wearing a substantial amount of stolen jewelry, with more found in her suitcase.

Detectives later reviewed police body camera footage and witnessed Roberts attempting to dispose of some of the stolen jewelry while being escorted through the airport. Despite denying the theft allegations during police interviews, Roberts was found to have stolen an estimated $169,882 worth of jewelry and cash.

In total, 269 items worth $147,113 were recovered from her bedroom, with an additional $1,383 of stolen items found on her person and $18,912 worth of jewelry in her suitcase. Detective Sergeant Krista Wilkinson of Humberside Police stated that Roberts had been arrogant and deceitful, posing on social media and boasting about her holiday while wearing stolen jewelry.

Roberts’ actions not only impacted the company financially but also betrayed her colleagues, who considered her a friend. The jewelry store, Daniella Draper, expressed gratitude to Humberside Police and their employees for their diligence in bringing about justice.

In conclusion, the jewelers stated that they were relieved to have closure on the matter after several years and were thankful for the efforts of the police and their employees in achieving justice. The case serves as a reminder of the consequences of betraying trust and committing theft in the workplace.
