Christchurch saw thousands of participants gather for the FreshChoice City2Surf fun run on a sunny Sunday morning.
The event offered 6km and 12km courses starting at Porrit Park and Latimer Square, following the scenic City to Sea Pathway along the Avon River to the finish line at Rawhiti Domain, New Brighton.
The weather was ideal at 20°C for this charity fundraiser, which supported Hato Hone St John this year.
Exciting new features like prize archways along the course kept the participants energized. These archways read the chip in your bib and recorded a prize to collect at the finish line.
One runner humorously shared, “Not entirely sure how I managed to run 13.5km in a 12km event… but hey, we’ll count it as bonus training.”
Bailey Wells from Fire and Emergency NZ expressed pride in team FireCom’s performance and camaraderie during the event.
A member of the Trailblazers team described the morning as fun, connecting with others, and pushing limits to build resilience.
All participants received a Celsius drink and a medal at the finish line, followed by live entertainment and prizegiving at noon.
Participants like Jennifer Chen and The Morgans shared their achievements and satisfaction with the event.
Hamish Campbell for Ilam appreciated the turnout for the City2Surf event and emphasized the importance of staying active.
The first City2Surf was held in 1975, and congratulations were extended to everyone involved in the successful organization of the 2026 event.
