A head-on crash in Dunedin this afternoon resulted in three patients being transported to the hospital in serious condition. Emergency crews responded to the incident on Blanket Bay Rd, near Dunedin-Port Chalmers Road, around 2.50pm. The crash involved a ute towing a horse float and a car. Fire and Emergency crews from Willowbank, Port Chalmers, and Ravensbourne worked to extract a trapped person from one of the vehicles. The scene was cleared by fire crews at around 4.15pm. An observer at the scene noted that the crash was head-on, with the car’s hood wedged under the front of the ute. One of the car’s occupants, in a school uniform, was treated by St John personnel before being transported to Dunedin Hospital along with two other patients. The road has since been cleared by the police, who confirmed that the horse involved in the incident was unharmed.
