A horrific incident unfolded in Edgewater last month, when a 15-year-old boy joined forces with two 14-year-olds to carry out a violent carjacking that left a 39-year-old man critically injured. The young perpetrators, who are not even old enough to legally drive, orchestrated the attack in the early hours of June 10 on West Peterson Avenue.

Reports from the Chicago Police Department indicate that the three boys, accompanied by an unidentified accomplice, arrived at the scene in a white sedan. They struck the victim with their vehicle, proceeded to rob him, and at least one of them brandished a gun during the altercation. The trio then fled the scene in the victim’s blue Toyota Highlander, leaving him with severe injuries that required immediate medical attention at St. Francis Hospital.

Subsequently, all three teens have been charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm. Additionally, one of the 14-year-olds faces an extra charge of unlawful possession of a weapon. The fourth carjacker involved in the incident is still at large.

Due to the fact that the suspects are minors, their identities and further details pertaining to the case are protected under Illinois law. The gravity of the situation underscores the importance of addressing the issue of juvenile involvement in violent crimes and the need for stringent measures to prevent such incidents from reoccurring.
