On Thursday, Tim Allen took to X to express his newfound compassion for the drunk driver who took his father’s life when Allen was just a child.
He stated: “When Erika Kirk spoke the words about the man who killed her husband: ‘That man… that young man… I forgive him.’ That moment deeply affected me.”
Allen’s father, Gerald Dick, tragically lost his life in a drunk driving incident while driving his family home after a football game in Colorado.
He added, “I have struggled for over 60 years to forgive the man who killed my Dad. I will say those words now as I type: ‘I forgive the man who killed my father.’ Peace be with you all.”

In his tweet, Allen shared the emotional impact of Erika’s forgiveness.

Allen has spoken candidly about how the tragic loss of his father altered the course of his life. Reflecting on that fateful day, he recalled: “(He) broke his neck and died in my mom’s lap right there.”
“As many times as I’d relive this—if you haven’t had a death in your family, I don’t suggest it—but it certainly changes everything. From your cells and DNA, it turns a different color.”
Years later, during a 2012 interview, Allen revealed he has been in search of answers regarding his father’s death ever since he was a young boy. “Part of me still doesn’t trust that everything will work out all right,” he lamented. “I wanted answers that minute from God. ‘Do you think this is funny? Do you think this is necessary?'”

The ceremony drew over 90,000 attendees, including notable figures such as President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and entrepreneur Elon Musk.
In her emotionally charged speech, she proclaimed, “Our Savior said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.’ That young man… I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it’s what Charlie would do.”
