Disney+ is set to bring back the beloved character Tinker Bell in a new project titled “Tink.” This new version of the project has been in development for over a decade in various forms and is now considered a high priority at Disney+. The streaming platform has enlisted the talents of Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter, known for their work on “Friday Night Lights,” to write and executive produce the series.
While Disney has not released a logline for the project, “Tink” has a rich history at the studio. Previous iterations of the project included a live-action romantic comedy starring Elizabeth Banks and a version with Reese Witherspoon as the lead. Most recently, Yara Shahidi portrayed Tinker Bell in the 2023 live-action film “Peter Pan and Wendy.”
The new version of “Tink” is currently in drama development at Disney+ through 20th Television. Alongside Heldens and Carpenter, Gary Marsh, former president of Disney Channels Worldwide and Disney Branded Television, is attached as a producer. Quinn Haberman from Selfish Mermaid is also on board as an executive producer.
Heldens, currently co-showrunner on ABC’s “Will Trent,” has an impressive resume that includes shows like “Boston Public,” “Mercy,” and “The Passage.” Carpenter, known for her work on “Only Murders in the Building” and “Parenthood,” is also a successful playwright with productions at prestigious theaters like Steppenwolf Theatre Company and The Public Theater.
The news of the new “Tink” project was first reported by Deadline. With a talented team behind the scenes and a rich history at Disney, fans can expect an exciting and fresh take on the iconic character Tinker Bell.
