The National Governors Association’s winter meeting is in full swing in Washington D.C., bringing together governors from all 50 states to discuss key issues facing their constituents. Led by Colorado Governor Jared Polis, the group is tackling a wide range of topics, from tariffs to immigration enforcement, that have direct impacts on their states.

In a special episode of POLITICO’s Deep Dive podcast, Playbook’s Eugene Daniels sat down with Governor Polis to dive deep into these pressing issues. Polis, known for his unconventional stances, shared his thoughts on working with President Trump, navigating the fast-paced world of policymaking, and the potential impacts of funding cuts from reconciliation.

One topic of discussion was how Democrats should approach working with Trump versus opposing him. Polis emphasized the importance of finding common ground while standing firm on core principles. He also touched on how Trump’s actions may be hurting his own agenda and the country as a whole.

In a more lighthearted moment, Daniels asked Polis about his thoughts on tech mogul Elon Musk and the cryptocurrency DOGE. Polis joked about what the first thing Musk and DOGE should cut, adding a touch of humor to the serious discussions taking place at the summit.

As the NGA meeting continues, governors like Polis are faced with the challenge of balancing the needs of their states with the ever-changing landscape of national politics. Through open dialogue and collaboration, they hope to address pressing issues and find solutions that benefit all Americans.
