After Senate Republicans confirmed Todd Blanche, Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, as the Attorney General, his objectives at the Department of Justice soon became apparent.
During an appearance on NBCâs Meet The Press, Kristen Welker questioned Blanche. She said, âWe appreciate you being here in person. As we just heard in your address to the Justice Department staff this week, you said you and the DOJ will, quote, âuphold the law without fear or favor.â You of course used to be President Trumpâs personal defense attorney. Can you pledge that the Justice Department will always act independently of the White House?â
Welker further inquired about the DOJ’s historical independence from political influence by the White House. Blanche responded that such independence should not exist in any presidential administration.
