Tomislav Topić is a renowned artist known for his stunning installations created from painted mesh fabric panels. These panels are carefully suspended from the ceiling or between outdoor structures, transforming the spaces they inhabit into immersive experiences. The layers of fabric interact with sunlight and each other to produce vibrant gradients that captivate viewers.

One of Topić’s most recent works, titled “Echoverse,” is a mesmerizing installation consisting of 451 panels in 57 different colors. Stretching nearly 100 feet long and 25 feet wide, this piece is currently on display at Les 3 CHA, an art center in Châteaugiron, France. The colorful panels undulate through the open space, creating a wave-like effect that enchants all who encounter it.

Another notable installation by Topić is “Nexus Lucis,” which was showcased above the altar of a large church in Gisors, France earlier this year. Additionally, his new outdoor piece, “Afterburn,” floats above Intendencia Street in downtown Pensacola, Florida, drawing attention and admiration from passersby.

Topić’s work is a harmonious blend of geometry, hue, and light, resulting in prismatic interactions that evolve as viewers move around the installations. Each color, layer, and viewpoint responds to one another, creating a poetic and dynamic visual experience. From certain angles, the panels may appear opaque, while from others, their faceted and translucent nature is revealed, adding depth and dimension to the artwork.

The artist pays careful attention to the nature of the spaces where his installations are placed, considering how light interacts with them throughout the day. Topić aims to create a deliberate contrast that still harmonizes with the surroundings, fostering a symbiotic relationship between his art and the space it occupies. This intentional integration is essential to him, especially in spaces with rich histories like the 800-year-old chapel where “Echoverse” is currently on display.
