Tommy Robinson Set for Release Following Sentence Reduction
British political figure Tommy Robinson is poised to regain his freedom within the next week, as the High Court has agreed to reduce his 18-month sentence for contempt of court by four months.
Robinson was incarcerated last October after breaching a 2021 court injunction that barred him from reiterating allegations against Jamal Hijazi, a Syrian refugee who had previously secured a libel victory against him.
During the original sentencing, Justice Johnson clarified that Robinson’s prison term comprised a 14-month “punitive” segment and a four-month “coercive” segment. This week, Robinson successfully appealed to the High Court to have the coercive part of his sentence lifted.
Justice Johnson previously indicated that Robinson could have this coercive period alleviated if he demonstrated compliance with the court’s order.

The contempt charges were linked to Robinson’s 2023 film, Silenced, along with various interviews where he reiterated the previously banned claims. Robinson admitted to ten violations of the injunction after the Solicitor General filed two contempt applications, one of which accused him of “publishing, causing, authorising or procuring” the film’s release.
In March, reported that Robinson had endured 128 days in solitary confinement at his prison in Milton Keynes.

Interestingly, other inmates at this facility have included notorious figures such as the Manchester Arena bombers and Islamic extremists like Abu Hamza and Anjem Choudary—individuals with far graver offenses than Robinson’s alleged missteps.

Robinson has been a focal point of controversy within the British state, primarily due to his outspoken views aimed at exposing grooming gangs, mass immigration, and the perceived threats posed by Islamic extremism.
