Ta-ta, Tiva: The End of “NCIS: Tony & Ziva”
The much-anticipated “NCIS: Tony & Ziva” spinoff has been canceled after just one season, leaving fans disappointed. The series, which reunited Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo as their beloved “NCIS” characters, Tony and Ziva, failed to secure a renewal for a second season.
Weatherly and de Pablo expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to revisit their iconic roles and continue the story of Tony and Ziva. They thanked the cast, crew, writers, directors, and producers, as well as CBS Studios and Paramount+ for making the project a reality. Most importantly, they thanked the loyal fans who followed the characters on their journey.
The 10-episode spinoff premiered on Sept. 4 to strong viewership numbers but experienced a significant decline in viewership in the following episodes. Despite this, critics praised the show for its focus on the relationship between Tony and Ziva, a departure from the typical procedural format of the “NCIS” franchise.
“NCIS: Tony & Ziva” also featured a talented ensemble cast, including Amita Suman, Maximilian Osinski, Julian Ovenden, Nassima Benchicou, Lara Rossi, Isla Gie, Terence Maynard, and James D’Arcy.
The show’s premise followed Tony and Ziva as they raised their daughter, Tali, in Paris after Ziva’s supposed death. When Tony’s security company is attacked, the family is forced to go on the run across Europe, facing danger and uncertainty as they strive to protect each other.
Weatherly and de Pablo originally portrayed Tony and Ziva on the long-running series “NCIS,” with Weatherly departing in Season 13 and de Pablo in Season 11. The spinoff allowed them to explore new aspects of their characters’ relationship and delve deeper into their personal lives.
John McNamara served as the showrunner and executive producer of “NCIS: Tony & Ziva,” with de Pablo and Weatherly also contributing as executive producers. The series was produced by CBS Studios.
While “NCIS: Tony & Ziva” may have come to an end, fans can still enjoy the one season of the show on Paramount+. The cancellation may be disappointing, but the legacy of Tony and Ziva’s story will live on in the hearts of loyal viewers.
