Following extensive planning, some disagreements, and a few exchanges, the leading Democrats from New York and New Jersey came together to attend the World Cup.
New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani are present at this evening’s Brazil-Morocco match.
The television broadcast showed the two New Yorkers seated next to each other, with Sherrill joining them during the game.
Before entering the stadium, Sherrill disembarked from a New Jersey Transit train that transported fans from both teams shortly before 4 p.m. to conduct a brief press conference with her top transit advisers.
“This is the easiest, fastest way to get in and out of the stadium,” she stated.
New Jersey Transit gained international attention due to its high ticket prices — initially set at $150 and later reduced to $98.
Sherrill mentioned that approximately 21,000 people purchased tickets on the New Jersey Transit system to reach the match, with plans to accommodate up to 40,000 attendees for each game.
