Tori Spelling recently reflected on her experience with the notorious Hollywood heartthrob, Charlie Sheen. As Sheen’s turbulent past rises to the forefront with the release of his new memoir, The Life of Sheen: A Memoir, along with his documentary series, aka Charlie Sheen, Spelling took the opportunity to recount her own dating escapade with the actor.
“There was a time when my friend and dentist, Kevin, was in recovery alongside Charlie, and he mentioned, ‘Charlie wants to ask you out,’” Spelling, now 52, recounted during the September 22 episode of iHeartRadio’s “missSPELLING” podcast. “I felt the jitters and preferred not to go solo.”
In a classic Tori Spelling twist, the Beverly Hills, 90210 star remembered their dinner date at an Italian place in Beverly Hills, accompanied by some intriguing company.
“Kevin mentioned, ‘I’m going out to dinner with my parents,’ where Charlie and I shared mutual acquaintances,” Spelling elaborated. “So, it was a family affair—Kevin’s parents, me, Kevin, and Charlie at dinner.”
It seems the chemistry was more cerebral than romantic; Spelling noted, “I quickly discovered that Charlie is unimaginably intelligent. Off the charts! His charm and humor were something else.”
Though their meeting didn’t ignite a romantic spark, Spelling humorously addressed a separate anecdote from The Life of Sheen. The actor recounts a time he needed to evade law enforcement after a legal mishap, a favor that was not to be for Spelling.
“There I was in my laundry room when Kevin popped in and asked, ‘T, can we hide Charlie?’” Spelling recalled. “This was serious, as they were searching for him actively, helicopters and all! What if they found him while I played the role of his hiding assistant?”
Ultimately, she said no. In his book, Sheen reflected, “I couldn’t fault her. But it is intriguing to ponder what tales I’d be spinning now if she had said, ‘Sure!’”
Sheen’s life has seen a significant shift in recent years. In a candid chat with Page Six, he revealed he has embraced sobriety—and celibacy—for the past eight years. Remarkably, he has also patched things up with his ex-wife, Denise Richards, with whom he shares two daughters: Sami, 21, and Lola, 20.
While the romance between Spelling and Sheen has flickered away, she couldn’t help but feel a lingering nostalgia while watching aka Charlie Sheen. “I felt it too,” she confessed to podcast guest Amy Sugarman, reflecting on the enduring connection between the couple. “It’s worth noting that when they first met, that date took place in the same building where I lived.”
