Numerous tornadoes touched down on Colorado’s Eastern Plains on Friday evening, according to National Weather Service forecasters. Fortunately, the tornadoes did not cause significant damage.
During the period between 5:09 p.m. and 6:11 p.m., trained spotters and storm chasers reported five tornadoes in Logan and Washington counties, as confirmed by the agency.
Damage reports included a home near Fremont Butte and two silos near Messex, a deserted town located between Brush and Sterling. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Tornado warnings for the area expired at 6:30 p.m., and severe thunderstorm warnings remained in effect until 7:15 p.m.
According to meteorologist Russell Danielson, the NWS Boulder office will require some time to assess the exact paths and impact of the tornadoes. This recent storm occurred shortly after four tornadoes hit eastern Colorado the previous Sunday, causing damage to numerous buildings and homes.
While it is unusual to witness such a high frequency of tornadoes within a week, Danielson noted that the latter part of May and early June mark the peak of severe weather season in Colorado.
