True Colours, an Italian sales company co-owned by Indigo Film and Lucky Red, is expanding into the TV content space under the new management of Elliot Gustin-Hollman. Gustin-Hollman, formerly with Paris-based distribution powerhouse Newen Connect, is bringing his expertise to lead True Colours into the world of TV sales.
With the growing popularity of scripted dramas from Italian indie producers, True Colours saw the need to venture into TV sales to ensure these shows reach international audiences. Carlotta Calori, partner at Indigo Film, expressed the company’s success in the film distribution space over the past decade and their desire to replicate this with TV shows.
Gustin-Hollman emphasized the importance of working closely with independent producers in Italy, especially in a time where funding from broadcasters and streamers is decreasing. By collaborating with producers from the early stages of their projects, True Colours aims to provide dedicated support and curation to ensure the success of their TV content.
The move into TV sales comes at a time when the landscape of Italian sales companies is evolving, with new players like PiperFilm and RAI Cinema International Distribution entering the market. Stefano Massenzi, Head of acquisitions at Lucky Red, highlighted the opportunities for Italian films to gain more exposure worldwide under new legislation that allows producers to retain greater rights.
True Colours’ approach to TV content is described as boutique and hands-on, promising to treat each show with care and attention. Some of the new titles in their TV lineup include “Milano,” a docu-series about Italian fashion in the 1970s and 80s, and “The Palm Line,” a Swiss/Italian series exploring a journalist’s quest to uncover the truth about her father’s death at the hands of the Sicilian mafia.
In addition to TV content, True Colours continues to showcase a diverse range of film titles, including sci-fi romcom “U Are the Universe,” homage to 1960s Euro-spy stories “Reflection in a Dead Diamond,” and eco-themed animation film “Forest” at events like MIA. The company’s dedication to promoting Italian content on a global scale remains unwavering.
With a focus on quality curation and personalized attention to each project, True Colours is poised to make a significant impact in the TV content space and continue its legacy as a trusted international distributor for Italian producers.
