Trump Unveils New Trade Agreements with Southeast Asia

In a whirlwind of diplomatic activity, President Trump met with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday, unveiling a new trade deal with the Philippines, which was quickly followed by a similar agreement with Indonesia.

Right after their meeting, Trump declared that the Philippines would eliminate all tariffs and would instead pay a 19% tariff on imports to the United States. “Moreover, we will deepen our military collaboration. It was a tremendous honor to engage with such a respected leader. He commands great admiration in his country, and rightly so,” Trump conveyed:

President Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines has just departed from the White House, accompanied by his numerous representatives. It was a splendid visit, culminating in our Trade Deal, which sees the Philippines adopting an OPEN MARKET approach with the United States, while imposing ZERO tariffs on American goods. The Philippines will adhere to a 19% tariff on their imports. Additionally, we will collaborate militarily. It was a great honor to meet the President, who is indeed a skilled and formidable negotiator. We extend our warmest regards to the wonderful people of the Philippines!

Just hours later, Trump announced a separate deal with Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto, mirroring the tariff-free trade structure established with the Philippines. Indonesia will also pay a 19% tariff on all imports to the U.S.

“Furthermore, Indonesia will provide the United States with vital Critical Minerals and engage in significant contracts worth Tens of Billions of Dollars for Boeing Aircraft, American agricultural products, and energy resources. This agreement is a HUGE WIN for our automakers, tech companies, workers, farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers,” Trump proclaimed.

It is my great honor to announce our Trade Agreement with the Republic of Indonesia, represented by their esteemed President, Prabowo Subianto. It has been agreed that Indonesia will open its market to American industrial and technological products, as well as agricultural goods, by eliminating 99% of their tariff barriers. The United States will now be able to export American-made products to Indonesia at a tariff rate of ZERO, while Indonesia will incur a 19% tariff on all their products entering the U.S. — the premier market globally! Additionally, Indonesia will supply the U.S. with Critical Minerals and engage in significant contracts worth tens of billions of dollars for Boeing Aircraft, American agricultural products, and energy. This agreement is a monumental WIN for our automakers, tech companies, workers, farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers. Thank you for your attention. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

As reported by , the President also announced a third trade agreement with Japan, which includes a staggering $550 billion investment in the United States alongside a reciprocal tariff rate of 15% for American goods.

“Japan will invest, at my direction, $550 billion into the United States, which will yield 90% of the profits for us,” Trump stated. “This deal will create hundreds of thousands of jobs — there has never been anything like it.”
