President Donald Trump defended the U.S. strikes on Iran by shifting blame to his predecessors, former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Trump criticized the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) negotiated by the Obama administration, claiming that if he hadn’t terminated the Iran Nuclear Deal, Iran would have had a nuclear weapon three years ago. He took to his Truth Social platform to express his views, stating that the world would be different if the deal had remained in place. Trump also slammed the Radical Left Democrats for opposing his decision to conduct military operations without congressional approval.
Despite the JCPOA being considered one of Obama’s foreign policy achievements, Trump withdrew from the deal during his first term, calling it “horrible” and “one-sided.” He later claimed that he was prepared to negotiate a new agreement with Iranian officials before the 2020 election, but did not provide details on the potential deal.
The joint military strike with Israel on Iran, named Operation Epic Fury, has faced criticism from both Democrats and some Republicans. Trump defended the strike, stating that negotiations with Iran were futile as he believed they would attack first. However, Pentagon officials with access to intelligence reports have contradicted Trump’s claims, stating that there was no imminent threat from Iran.
The ongoing conflict has resulted in casualties, with at least six American service members killed in Iran’s counterattacks. Despite the challenges, Trump remains resolute, asserting that America is stronger than ever before despite opposition from his critics.
