On Tuesday, President Donald Trump spoke about his perceived economic accomplishments, focusing on what he believes the economy could eventually achieve.

During his speech at the White House Congressional Picnic, the president listed his achievements before discussing the economic situation.

“We have an economy — people aren’t seeing it yet — when we inherited, when we started, we had the highest inflation in the history of our country,” he began, reiterating a falsehood he has often claimed about inflation.

“And we actually had just before the war, before the energy forced other things up, but — up or down. We had the best numbers.”

He went on to incorrectly assert that the inflation rate was “1.6%” in the three months leading up to the Iran conflict it wasn’t and suggested that similar numbers would return.

On social media platform X, users criticized Trump’s economic claims. One remarked that “people aren’t seeing it yet because it doesn’t exist,” while another bluntly stated, “it’s not going well.”
