President Trump criticized Alex Pretti after a video surfaced showing him spitting at federal immigration officers and damaging their vehicle before his fatal encounter with border agents in Minneapolis.
Trump took to Truth Social to express his disapproval, stating, “[A]gitator and, perhaps, insurrectionist, Alex Pretti’s stock has gone way down with the just released video of him screaming and spitting in the face of a very calm and under control ICE Officer.”
The video captured Pretti shouting at federal agents and spitting at one of them as they tried to leave an area surrounded by anti-immigration protesters. He then kicked the taillight of the government SUV, breaking it as the vehicle drove away.
Eleven days later, Pretti was fatally shot by border enforcement officers during a struggle. Investigators believe that a round from Pretti’s own pistol may have prompted the agents to open fire.
Following the incident, two agents involved in Pretti’s shooting were placed on administrative leave. Trump dispatched border czar Tom Homan to Minnesota to address the unrest following the deaths of Pretti and another protester, Renee Good.
Homan emphasized that federal agents would focus on targeted immigration enforcement, particularly on migrants who have committed crimes after entering the US illegally.
