During the National Prayer Breakfast at the U.S. Capitol, President Trump addressed the tragic incident in which 67 people lost their lives after an American Airlines flight collided with a Black Hawk Army Helicopter near Ronald Reagan National Airport. He compared the rare occurrence of a helicopter and plane colliding to golf balls striking each other on a driving range, highlighting the improbability of such an event.
“The helicopter was flying at a high altitude, and we will soon uncover the specifics of what transpired,” he remarked. “The chances of such a collision are incredibly slim, even with no external factors involved. It’s like hitting golf balls on a driving range for hours without witnessing a single ball hitting another.”
Reflecting on the incident, Trump expressed disbelief at the chain of events that led to the tragedy. He emphasized that errors were made and that the collision should have been prevented.
Trump’s comments follow a straightforward response he gave to reporters earlier in the month when asked about visiting the crash site over the Potomac River.
“I do plan to visit, but not the actual crash site. What exactly is the site? The water? Should I go for a swim?” he quipped.
