US President Donald Trump made a triumphant return to office with a bold policy agenda that reshaped America’s relations with the world and expanded presidential power. However, as he faces the New Year and upcoming midterm elections, his grip on the Republican party is slipping, according to historians and analysts.

In his second term, Trump promised to overhaul the economy, federal bureaucracy, immigration policy, and cultural life in the US. He successfully achieved much of his agenda, solidifying his position as one of the most powerful presidents in modern US history.

Despite his successes, Trump’s approval ratings have dropped to 39%, with Republican voters expressing dissatisfaction with his handling of the economy. This decline in support has put Republicans at risk of losing control of Congress in the upcoming elections, jeopardizing Trump’s domestic agenda.

Throughout his second term, Trump has wielded executive power at an unprecedented rate, issuing executive orders and emergency declarations to bypass Congress and consolidate decision-making in the White House. The conservative majority on the US Supreme Court has largely supported Trump, and the Republican-controlled Congress has not stood in his way.

Analysts and historians compare Trump’s power expansion to that of Franklin Roosevelt, who enjoyed significant support during his presidency. However, Trump’s struggles with addressing rising living costs have caused concern among Republican lawmakers, prompting some to distance themselves from him in preparation for the elections.

As Trump faces challenges on the economic front, he has embarked on a campaign to promote his economic agenda and reassure voters of his plans to combat high prices. Despite these efforts, some Republican strategists are worried about the public’s perception of Trump’s handling of the economy.

In the coming year, Trump will continue to focus on lowering inflation and addressing the concerns of voters as he navigates the changing political landscape.
