President Trump has launched a vehement attack against Democrat Senator Richard Blumenthal, derisively nicknamed “Da Nang Dick,” advocating for an investigation into alleged fabrications regarding his military background during the Vietnam War.
For decades, Blumenthal has been criticized for misrepresenting himself as a ‘war hero’ despite not serving in Vietnam. His military records reveal that he joined the Marine Corps Reserve and managed to secure five draft deferments, a contradiction many have seized upon, as highlighted by military documentation.
Following the revelation of his embellishments, the Senator offered an almost comical defense, claiming he merely “misspoke” and intended to convey that he served “during the Vietnam era,” not in the battlefield as he previously suggested.
This entire narrative, now hanging by a thread, prompted President Trump to demand scrutiny into Blumenthal’s deceptive claims about his service. Trump blasted Blumenthal on Truth Social, characterizing him as “Sanctimonious Richard ‘Da Nang Dick’ Blumenthal, perhaps the biggest ‘joke’ in the United States Senate.” He accused Blumenthal of successfully duping the public and the media into believing he was a valorous “war hero,” venturing perilously through the jungles of Vietnam.
According to Trump, “He would recount his harrowing military experiences in almost every speech, portraying himself as a valiant fighter for freedom. But the reality is starkly different; he was exposed as a FRAUD.” Trump didn’t hold back, suggesting that Blumenthal’s misguided machinations extended over two decades, and he asserted, “Justice must be served; this man shouldn’t even hold a Senate seat!”
Trump’s barbs were further fueled by an exchange that took place on the same evening, when US Attorney General Pam Bondi took Blumenthal to task during a Senate Judiciary Committee session. The Senator had accused Bondi of engaging in questionable collaborations to benefit a former colleague in legal proceedings.
Bocci went on the offensive: “I cannot believe that you would accuse me of any improprieties given that you lied about your military service!” she retorted. “You lied to be elected as a US Senator!”
Bondi made it abundantly clear: “Don’t you ever challenge my integrity. I adhere to every ethics standard,” firmly establishing her credibility in response to Blumenthal’s allegations.
