President Donald Trump took to Truth Social in the early hours of Friday morning to launch a scathing attack on former Georgia Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan. In his post, Trump referred to Duncan as a “total loser” who was expelled from the state GOP earlier this year and has since switched his allegiance to the Democratic Party.
Despite having voted for Trump in the 2020 election, Duncan’s relationship with the former president soured after Trump’s efforts to overturn the election results in Georgia. Trump’s repeated attacks on Duncan, as well as other Georgia officials, for not supporting his baseless claims of election fraud led to Duncan’s decision not to seek reelection.
Since leaving the Republican Party, Duncan has been vocal in his criticism of Trump, describing him as having a “moral compass more like an ax murderer than a president.” He has also expressed his disillusionment with the current state of the GOP, stating that Trump now completely controls the party.
Duncan’s shift to the Democratic Party has fueled speculation that he may run for governor in 2026 when incumbent Brian Kemp is unable to seek reelection due to term limits. Despite facing backlash from Trump and his supporters, Duncan remains steadfast in his decision to distance himself from the former president and his influence over the Republican Party.
