Check out the video above where I outline why Republicans are already losing the battle over the government shutdown. Don’t miss it!
The Republican Party appears to have entered the current government funding standoff without any strategic blueprint. Their apparent plan was to hold out, betting that Democrats would cave at the last moment, much like what happened back in March.
However, March has long passed, and Democrats are taking a fresh approach this time around.
With tens of millions of Americans about to be hit by rising health insurance premiums, the stark reality is that Republicans need a well-thought-out game plan.
As Congressional leaders prepare for a meeting with Trump tomorrow, the big idea he reportedly has in mind is less than encouraging, according to CBS News:
“I just don’t know how we are going to solve this issue,” Mr. Trump disclosed in a phone interview with CBS News.
He further asserted his belief that the American public will back him should the government run out of funding, anticipating that Democrats might bear the political fallout for not collaborating with him to make further budget cuts.
…
A close source revealed to CBS News that Trump is actually looking to the possibility of a shutdown as an opportunity to leverage executive power, allowing him to cut various government initiatives and salaries.
In essence, Donald Trump seems to be hoping for a shutdown, viewing it as a means to unilaterally reduce federal programs that serve the public good.
