Donald Trump finds himself in a peculiar predicament with the persistent inquiries surrounding Jeffrey Epstein. Despite his attempts at misdirection, he seems unable to quell the demands from his base for the release of documents related to Epstein. In a curious twist, Trump even resorted to calling his supporters “stupid” and tried to shift blame onto Democrats, yet the strategy has proven fruitless.
The MAGA crowd remains adamant about wanting the Epstein files.
Trump’s latest distraction tactic involved a post on Truth Social:
The Washington “Whatever’s” should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team. There is a big clamoring for this. Likewise, the Cleveland Indians, one of the six original baseball teams, with a storied past. Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen. Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them. Times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a Country of passion and common sense. OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!!
Such a demand is not only bizarre but also tinged with a sense of melancholy.
This latest outburst reveals the inherent limitations of Trump’s political approach.
Trump’s brand of leadership is less about unification and more about division.
As the self-proclaimed president of America’s minority tyranny, his grip on power hinges on his ability to sow discord among the populace. He has masterfully capitalized on cultural divides and the contentious issues of our time to secure and maintain his influence.
The timing of Trump’s call for a return to racially insensitive sports team names becomes clearer when considering another Truth Social post he made on Sunday:
My Poll Numbers within the Republican Party, and MAGA, have gone up, significantly, since the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax was exposed by the Radical Left Democrats and, just plain “troublemakers.” They have hit 90%, 92%, 93%, and 95%, in various polls, and are all Republican Party records. The General Election numbers are my highest, EVER! People like Strong Borders, and all of the many other things I have done. GOD BLESS AMERICA. MAGA!
However, let’s not kid ourselves—Trump was not being truthful. His soaring MAGA approval ratings do not convey the entire picture.
According to a recent CBS News Poll, MAGA is internally divided regarding his handling of the Epstein situation:
Just as a house divided cannot stand, neither can a fractured political party hope to succeed in upcoming elections.
The repercussions of this internal discord will likely manifest in congressional races and Republican voter turnout in 2026, rather than in Trump’s approval ratings.
In his ongoing attempts at damage control, Trump is resorting to increasingly desperate measures, including insensitive remarks about Native Americans, in a bid to keep his party united.
