WASHINGTON — President Trump has instructed the Department of War to send “all necessary” military personnel to Portland, Oregon, with the aim of securing the city and protecting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) staff, as he announced on Saturday.
The president further stated that he is “authorizing Full Force, if necessary,” against a backdrop of increasing protests targeting the ICE detention facility in Portland, which have escalated since June.
“At the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to mobilize all necessary troops to safeguard war-torn Portland, along with any of our ICE facilities that are under threat from Antifa and other domestic terrorists,” Trump declared on Truth Social.
“I am also authorizing Full Force, if needed.”
The president’s directive follows a series of violent incidents against ICE officers and the subsequent actions announced by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi aimed at addressing attacks on federal personnel.
On Friday evening, Bondi disclosed that the Justice Department would be deploying agents to ICE facilities to reinforce security.

The Joint Terrorism Task Forces are tasked with investigating “domestic terrorism” and pursuing the “most serious charges possible against all involved in these violent groups,” the AG stated on X.
“I have seen the relentless wave of violence aimed at ICE officers nationwide,” Bondi expressed. “The Department of Justice will not remain passive in the face of such anarchy.”
“Justice will prevail.”
