President Donald Trump has weighed in on the recent crime wave in Chicago, stating that Chicagoans are calling for his help to address the situation. The city has been rocked by violence, with at least eight teenagers shot, one fatally, and multiple police officers attacked during a riot in the downtown central business district.

Following a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, chaos erupted near State and Randolph streets, with reports of 300 juveniles rioting and attacking officers with mace and stun guns. City Alderman Brian Hopkins confirmed the violent scene, with one officer hospitalized and multiple children injured in the shootings.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticized Governor Pritzker and the Mayor of Chicago for refusing federal government assistance in dealing with the crisis. He claimed that the people of Chicago are calling for his intervention, chanting “BRING IN TRUMP!!”

The violent weekend in Chicago comes on the heels of a disturbing incident where a man with a lengthy criminal history allegedly set a woman on fire while riding on a Chicago train. Lawrence Reed, the suspect in the attack, has a history of arrests dating back to 2017, including charges of felony aggravated arson and battery.

Despite prosecutors’ efforts to keep Reed detained, a judge released him with an ankle monitor, sparking outrage and concern among residents. Mayor Brandon Johnson downplayed the train attack as an isolated incident, but the incident has added to the growing sense of insecurity and fear in the city.

The situation in Chicago has escalated to a point where federal intervention is being sought, with Trump’s comments highlighting the need for swift action to address the rising crime rates and violence plaguing the city. The call for help from Chicagoans underscores the urgency of the situation and the need for a coordinated response to restore safety and security to the streets of Chicago.
