Trump Says He May Veto Extension Of Obamacare Subsidies

On January 11, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he may veto legislation to extend federal health insurance subsidies, adding a new layer of uncertainty to the ongoing debate between congressional Republicans and Democrats. This debate has the potential to increase premiums for millions of Americans.

The expiration of health insurance tax breaks at the end of 2025 has put many Americans at risk of facing significant price increases for their coverage.

The Democratic-backed legislation to restore subsidies to the Affordable Care Act was passed by the Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives last Thursday, with 17 Republicans crossing party lines to support it.

Although the Senate, also controlled by Republicans, has previously rejected a similar bill, the passage in the House could lead to a potential compromise.
