In a bold move, President Donald Trump announced plans to double tariffs on steel imports from 25 to 50 per cent in an effort to revitalize the US steel industry. Speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania, Trump emphasized his commitment to bringing the industry “roaring back to life” and ensuring its competitiveness on the global stage.
During the rally, Trump also praised Nippon Steel’s $15 billion partnership with US Steel, highlighting the importance of foreign investment in supporting American businesses.
“We’re going to bring it from 25 per cent to 50 per cent, the tariffs on steel into the United States of America, which will even further secure the steel industry,” Trump affirmed to the crowd in West Mifflin. “Nobody is going to get around that.”
Earlier this year, Trump imposed a 25 per cent tariff on steel and aluminium imports as part of his broader strategy to address trade imbalances and protect American industries.
