The Department of Justice is working to arrange a meeting with Ghislaine Maxwell, an associate of Jeffrey Epstein, to obtain information related to the Epstein case. President Trump commented on the development, stating it “sounds appropriate,” although he claimed ignorance about the situation.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the plan on social media, emphasizing the importance of gathering all credible evidence in the Epstein investigation.

Trump has been criticized for his association with Epstein and his response to calls for transparency regarding Epstein’s crimes and death. He dismissed the scrutiny as a politically motivated distraction from his agenda.

During a meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines, Trump announced on social media new tariffs on imports from the Philippines and tariff-free exports from the U.S.

Trump’s focus on criticizing former President Obama and Democrats has overshadowed discussions on the Epstein case. He urged reporters to shift attention to alleged intelligence manipulation in the 2016 election.

House Speaker Mike Johnson’s decision to adjourn early signifies ongoing tensions among Republicans regarding the Epstein matter, leading to schedule changes and cancellations.

NPR Congressional Correspondent Claudia Grisales contributed to this report.
